The #keepgoingclub origin story
(spoiler alert: creative superheroes are involved.)
What's that thing you really want to do? That creative project you desperately want to bring into the world? That dream that you can't seem to ignore, no matter how much you've tried, or how many things keep getting in the way?
I call that your #keepgoingthing. Mine is my second book. I started working on it in 2014. I thought it would be done by 2015.
I'm still working on that book. For the book, I interviewed 120 people about a dream of theirs that became a reality, and one of the people I interviewed changed my life and my outlook on creativity forever: Don Hahn. He's produced some of my favorite films in the world, including Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, and Waking Sleeping Beauty. He also designed the Creative Teacup logo.
I met Don years ago now; we kept in touch. He invited my husband and I to his studio. We would talk about our creative work. He'd also email me once in a while to ask how the book was going. I'd tell him, and then - no matter how it was going, whether I was frustrated with my slow progress or thrilled because of a break through, he would email me some version of the same two words, the only variance being the number of exclamation points:
So I did. Because Don Hahn said to keep going. Because Don Hahn believed in me.
And I believe in you.
Above all, Don's "keep going" messages taught me this:
There is no way you can control the outcome, but there is magic that can only be found if you keep going.
I hope this helps you do just that.
